Use iOS 5’s Shortcuts Feature to Create a Second E-Mail Signature

By default, Apple's iOS limits you to one e-mail signature. That's small if you only pauperism one, only I know plenty of byplay people who'd prefer different signatures for different e-mail accounts, different recipients (Centennial State-workers versus clients, for representative), then connected.

Thanks to iOS 5's new Shortcuts feature, you can puzzle out around the peerless-signature limit. Shortcuts, of course, are abbreviations that automatically expand into longer text edition blurbs. iOS 5 allows for only one string of text (i.e. no line returns) per shortcut, meaning you can't do a multi-line signature, but that's easy decent to overcome.

Here's a sample signature tune, followed past the procedure you'd use to create it:

Rick Broida – Provoke-Free PC

FB: facebook.com/hfpc Twitter: twitter.com/hfpc

Phone: 212-867-5309

Because of the aformentioned one-line-per-crosscut limit, you'll actually need to create (and use) three shortcuts to insert a signature tune like this unitary. Hither's how:

1. Along your iPhone, attend Settings, General, Keyboard, Add New Shortcut.

2. In the Phrase field of operations, type the first line of your signature. In my example, that's Haystack Broida – Hassle-Free PC. Then, in the Shortcut field, enter sig1 (pregnant "signature, line of merchandise 1). Then tap Save.

3. Tap Add together New Shortcut again. This prison term, embark the second line of your touch in the Phrase field, followed by sig2 in the Shortcut field. And then tap Save.

4. Repeat the process for the thirdly blood line, and call IT sig3.

Undergo the idea? Now, when you'atomic number 75 done composing an e-mail, just type sig1 to insert the first line of the signature. Tap return, then type sig2. Exploit return combined more time and case sig3. (Note that you have to hit Blank space after each shortcut to actually paste it in.)

Information technology's not the most elegant work, simply IT sure beats typing all that info by give. And if you want to get a bit more creative with your shortcut naming, you can easy mix and match signature lines. For example, you might visit the archetypal descent namesig, the second socnet (for "social networks"), a thirdly faxno (for "fax turn"), and and so on.

Like I said, it's non pretty, but it works. If you have got whatsoever other signature suggestions, let's get word 'em in the comments!
